DOJ Reverses Course

The DOJ’s new Wire Act opinion has created a cloud of ambiguity in the US gambling industry. It reverses a previous 2011 opinion that limited the scope of the Wire Act to sports betting only. But, under the new interpretation, the 1961 federal law extends to all forms of online gambling. According to gaming experts, the new opinion could rip to shreds not only the online gambling businesses in certain states, but also state lotteries and horse racing. Read more on my blog page.

Gambling Revenue Up for 2017

Commercial Gambling Win Up: Gambling revenue from an estimated 460 commercial casinos in the U.S. set a record of $40.3 billion in 2017, an increase of 3.4%. The top market was Las Vegas with $6.4 billion, followed by Atlantic City with $2.4 billion, and Chicagoland with $2.0 billion.

New Jersey Could Eclipse Nevada's Sports Betting Action
